When East meets West,
when past mingles with present,
we are here,
where are you?
We are a small team of four students and future scholars, who are all fond of fashion.
We share the same goals, we all would like to pursue our career in this field.
We have different cultural background, Italy, Korea and China.
The course aims to analyze the staging and visual performance of fashion within different media: the museum, the academy, and the fashion industry as an integrated formula for exhibition display. It will be discussed the legitimization of fashion as a cultural phenomenon and the role of exhibitions as unique format in which to present new ideas on both old and new fashions.
Fashion exhibitions have become a real trend in the recent years: this reveals the interest of museums in fashionable clothing as representative of past and present style, identity and culture.
Fashion exhibitions are a strategic tool to refresh the image of the museums and to attract a considerably wider international audience, composed not only by professionals of the sector but also by the general public. Therefore, such events, above all the blockbuster exhibitions, contribute even in the increasing tourism in a significant way.
The aim of our project is to analyze the increasing relevance of fashion in the museums from a sociocultural and critical point of view. Our work demonstrate that these exhibitions are not only a matter of entertainment and glamour, but also an interesting and innovative way to theorize the culture of fashion and its imaginary. Museums have become a new place where showcase fashion, alongside with catwalk shows and boutiques.
Our portfolio discusses four recent fashion exhibitions. Each exhibition amazes the world not only with its beauty but also serves as a valuable material for global fashion studies.
