The exhibition was organized by the Costume Institute in New York and curated by Andrew Bolton.

It was displayed at the Metropolitan Museum (New York) in 2011 and then at the V & A (London) in 2015.

One of the most visited and famous fashion exhibition in the recent years, Savage Beauty displays the extraordinary imaginary of McQueen, creating a suggestive experience in the museum where the clothes are presented like real works of art.

"Savage Beauty is a showcase of the key themes and concepts that inspired and informed Alexander McQueen throughout his career: Romanticism, the Gothic, history, nature, anatomy, and the interplay between each in his search for the sublime" (AlexanderMcQueen.com) .

"Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the" bumster "trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point" origami "frockcoat were on view. McQueen's fashions often referenced the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s, but his technical ingenuity always imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at the avant-garde (http://blog.metmuseum.org /).

The exhibition at the V & A has been enhanced by Claire Wilcox, in order to showcase in the best way the work of one of the most influential spokesperson of the British fashion.

The exhibition was in partnership with Swarovski and supported by American Express, MAC and Samsung.

“What means the most to me is that the V&A is hosting this show and that it’s taking place in London. I associate McQueen with London: with its streets, with its history, with its museums, with its clubs. I think he felt rooted in the city. It’s an extraordinary privilege to be bringing this show home”. (Claire Wilcox).
